Our
history

The origins of Landell Mills date back to the mid-1970s when John Landell Mills and his associates first started carrying out research and providing agricultural management services in sub-Saharan Africa. After incorporation in 1981, Landell Mills grew steadily during its first 20 years as it increased its services portfolio to include technical assistance to a range of international clients on all aspects of agriculture, fisheries and rural development throughout Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Later in the 1990s, Landell Mills expanded into Eastern Europe and the former Soviet states, while also diversifying into natural resource management, notably in China and South East Asia, and private sector development, most prominently in Africa and the near East.

In 1998, Landell Mills joined forces with TDI Group, formerly the Trade Development Institute of Ireland, which deepened the company’s service offer, especially in export and investment promotion, as it sought to promote the Irish tiger growth model in emerging economies.

By 2009, the two companies had merged under the one Landell Mills brand and, after a period of restructure and reorganisation, the company now provides services across five sector service headings and five thematic service types. Working out of both Ireland and the UK, with a permanent staff of 55 and an average turnover of €25 million/$30million, Landell Mills has emerged as one of Europe’s leading independent employer-managed international consulting companies.
