Landell Mills’ education outreach experience: trainings and workshops for youth

News 09.12.24 Education

Our experience in organising education outreach activities for our clients, including for EU Delegations globally, has three strands. We have recently detailed both our extensive experience in organising Erasmus+ promotional activities, including annual pre-departure orientation events, face-to-face and online information sessions, and alumni events and networks; and the range of Study in Europe and Higher Education Fairs that we have organised for students.

The third component of our education outreach experience includes the organisation of a wide range of training opportunities for young people, including:

  • The 48 Hour Film Challenge, which provided training to young filmmakers in Rwanda on how to use phones and other related low-cost tools to enhance filmmaking. The two-day masterclass challenged participants to write, produce, and film a short film. Submissions were later shown to a full house at the Institut Français.
  • Mentorship sessions on our ASEAN contract for the Youth Sustainable Project (YSUP) competition, which aimed to help participants in communicating their projects to relevant stakeholders and gaining a better understanding of the EU-ASEAN business landscape. Over 40 participants attended the two sessions. The first session focused on the EU-ASEAN Green Business Landscape and government affairs, while the second session gave an overview of development communications and provided one-on-one coaching on how to communicate projects to different target audiences and determine communication goals.
  • EU Mini Model debates in Kazakhstan, which are a fun way to encourage students to engage with areas of thematic relevance to EU/country-level cooperation. These debates comprised role-play activities in which students become representatives of different EU member states to prepare draft resolutions, develop strategies, negotiate, resolve conflicts, and navigate the EU’s rules and procedures. The teams were judged by a panel, who awarded prizes to winners in categories such as best delegate, best negotiator and best speaker.
  • EU-ASEAN Youth Sounding Board (YSB) workshops, which were pivotal to the EU’s initiative to engage youth in climate action. A video workshop and a policy walk were carried out in November and December 2023 to inform YSB members about the ‘Clean Planet’ video challenge, which focused on critical areas of food, energy and water, encouraging participants to highlight innovative climate solutions.
  • Two Youth4Foresight sessions, as part of the EU-ASEAN YSB inauguration visit in 2024. The first session, ‘Images of the Future’, focused on sharing each participant’s images of the future so that they can learn about the differences in how they each see the world. The second session was titled ‘Detectives of the Future’, and featured a game-style exercise that involved finding trends, patterns and useful insights among the ‘noise’ of the world around us.
  • The 10th EU-ASEAN Youth Talk Show, which was attended by over 350 participants online in May 2024. Titled ‘ASEAN Youth, Creativity and Innovation’, the show featured two winners from the 2023 YSUP competition. The show aimed to increase the visibility of EU support for ASEAN youth and its related policies; and to provide opportunities for the YSUP winners to share their passion, skills and expertise to other young people in ASEAN.
  • The 4th edition of the ASEAN-EU Cooperation and Scholarship Day, which took place virtually on the 12th and 13th of August 2021. The event brought together EU-funded cooperation programmes in ASEAN, education agencies and ASEAN youth; and aimed to highlight EU-ASEAN cooperation, as well as scholarship opportunities for ASEAN youth to study in other ASEAN Member States through the EU SHARE Programme and in Europe. More than 4,500 participants attended during the two-day event, which included representation from 46 countries.
