Landell Mills organises webinar on the impact of COVID-19 on health and nutrition
Landell Mills has organised a recent webinar on 'Increasing resilience of populations to the impact of the COVID pandemic on their health and nutrition' as part of the EU-funded Food Fortification Advisory Services (2FAS) contract that we implement in partnership with the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN).
The current global outbreak of COVID-19 is disrupting food systems around the world and may severely impact availability and access to nutritious foods, particularly among poor and vulnerable populations. The nutritional status of people is likely to be affected as they shift diets to affordable, shelf-stable and readily available foods. This may lead to a rise in all forms of malnutrition globally.
The webinar aimed to highlight the importance of nutrient-rich diets, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Issues discussed included how the pandemic will impact people's diets and nutrition globally; why it is especially important to address micronutrient deficiencies during the pandemic; and which fortification interventions are the most effective. The webinar also provided the opportunity to learn from the EU Delegations to Madagascar, Ethiopia and The Gambia about their ongoing Food Fortification projects, which aim to improve the diets and micronutrient status of their populations.
The presentations were followed by an audience Q&A session, which included over 60 participants from 42 EU Delegations.
