We are pleased to have been awarded a new contract funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The Accelerating Climate Resilience in Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment contract will run for 12 months in the Philippines.

The Philippines ranks as highly vulnerable to climate change. Its rich biodiversity is under threat from human activities such as deforestation and illegal fishing, as well as the growing impacts of climate change. To address these challenges, the Government of the Philippines and ADB launched the Climate Change Action Program (CCAP), which focuses on adaptation in vulnerable sectors such as agriculture and natural resources, and mitigation in emissions-heavy sectors such as energy and transport.

Under the Accelerating Climate Resilience in Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment contract, Landell Mills will assist the Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) in developing the design of six climate-proofed Protected Area Management Plans (PAMPs) in critical ecosystems. This also includes support for:

  • The installation of appropriate equipment and measures, such as early warning systems for climate hazards, biodiversity monitoring and detection, and energy-saving and environmentally friendly equipment.
  • The conduct of climate risk modelling studies for wildlife.
  • Capacity-building on climate hazards.

Landell Mills will also support the BMB to draft a legal document to facilitate the development and adoption of the six climate-proofed PAMPs that are developed under the contract.

The work across the protected areas, both terrestrial and marine, is envisaged to act as a pilot for scaling of climate-proofing of PAMPs across the country. Under the contract, government partners will be trained to assess PAMPs in line with climate change. Additionally, technical staff at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the BMB at the Government of the Philippines will be trained in climate impact modelling.
