Furniture: An inward buying mission of 8 EU furniture buyers was organised to visit 10 furniture companies. This was followed by prototype manufacture to European designs for target buyers in the EU and subsequent production using skilled hand craft resources in Egypt
Food Processing: An inward buying mission was set up by identifying 9 processed food companies with sustainable competitive advantage and matching them with 6 EU buyers. The mission resulted in more than $1M worth of orders being placed.

Agricultural Rehabilitation and Development Project (PRASAC-CAD) Institutional Strengthening
The project aimed to contribute to on-going socio-economic rehabilitation and development in the six target provinces of Kompong Cham, Kompong Chhnang, Takeo, Kompong Speu, Prey Veng and Svay Rieng. The principal objectives were:

The purpose of the project was to develop income generating opportunities for farms, dairies and small scale producers through improvements in milk production and processing and related institutional development.

Support for the Establishment of an Investment Promotion Authority
TDI provided technical assistance to establish and manage the Swaziland Investment Promotion Authority (SIPA). SIPA is responsible for the co-ordinated effective investment promotion of Swaziland as an investment location for both potential foreign and domestic investment. SIPA also acts as a strategic and policy adviser to the Government of Swaziland, on all matters relating to the development of a conducive environment for the attraction of investment and the development and implementation of an effective strategy for the promotion of Swaziland as an investment location.
SIPA also assists investors with a variety of start-up services, e.g. necessary information, permits, licences and other matters related to initial set-up. It actively collaborates with both the Government services and the private sector to improve the business investment environment and the related services needed by investors and their industries. A number of short term sectoral studies have also been completed, focusing on investment opportunities in forestry, sugar as well as SME development.

Foreign Direct Investment & Export Development Programme
The main focus was to assist with the institution building of the Latvian Development Agency and the Ministry of Economy to: facilitate, develop and adapt appropriate trade and FDI policies; as well as devising and implementing marketing and export promotion programmes for local SME’s; the training of LDA staff and officials from other government bodies; and the management of a Euro 1,400,000 financial instrument to support the international competitiveness of the SMEs sector.
Technical and financial support was focused at supporting enterprise developmental and promotional activities. Other support activities undertaken during this project included support with the development of an FDI strategy for Latvia, a series of trade facilitation and promotion programmes in the EU, the USA and Asia; sectorally based programmes of development; development of marketing materials and publications; the provision of strategic advice and guidance on regional development and special economic areas; project investment appraisals for significant investment projects (e.g. pulp mill),; review of potential in IT, engineering and logistics sectors; participation in the FIAS investment study on administrative barriers; creation of a specific unit within LDA to implement recommendations from FIAS study and training of LDA staff in FDI marketing and client handling.

Support to the Ministry of Agriculture in Institutional Strengthening and Accession Related Activities
Support to the Ministry of Agriculture in the establishment of an Internal Coordination Unit, formulation of proposals (and new procedures partially or wholly installed) for strengthening the M.o.A’s internal administrative and management procedures to enable it to cope with the demands of EU membership. Develop and implement a training programme for staff of the M.o.A. in EU related tasks and broader skills required for EU membership. Enhance the capability installed in the Ministry to develop policies and negotiating positions in relation to EU accession. Establish an information and documentation centre in the Ministry for accessing and disseminating of information. Provide technical assistance in key areas of concern identified in Agenda 2000.
The huge reduction in water levels in the Aral Sea led to the need to manage water resources more efficiently within the Amu Darya and Syr Darya river basins in order to reduce environmental degradation and improve economic returns to water use. LML:
