Seed System Specialist/Team Leader

Due to recent business development opportunities, we are looking to recruit a Seed System Specialist/Team Leader. 

The project

The Mechanized Irrigation Innovation Project: Farmer Support Program will introduce new climate-resilient and high-yielding varieties, and transfer knowledge on new innovations on rice-based cropping systems in the project area. It will focus on testing profitable and sustainable agricultural technologies by developing climate-resilient and profitable crop calendars; and knowledge transfer through on-farm research, demonstrations, and orientation and training programs for policymakers, Nepal Agriculture Research Center (NARC) researchers, and extension workers.

The position

We are seeking to recruit a high calibre consultant with a Ph.D. degree in plant breeding, seed systems, agronomy or related field. 

Applicants require 15 years of experience in agricultural development, as well as:

  • Experience as a Team Leader managing agricultural projects 
  • Technical knowledge of systems analysis; policy engagement and dialogue on cropping systems research and development; seed regulatory frameworks; variety release procedures; participatory scaling up of successful approaches and models in developing countries; and a recognised track record of research work related to plant genetics, crop improvement, seed systems and value chain development. 
  • Experience working with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) or similar. 
  • Experience of agricultural systems in Nepal.
